Silent Auction
The SWS Silent Auction is traditionally held at Society of Wetland Scientists' international meetings to raise funds for the SWS student scholarship fund. These funds are awarded to college students conducting wetland-related research, to help defray costs of conference attendance so that students may attend and present their research, and for competitive awards for students presenting at the conference.
We look at the Silent Auction as the "SWS Shopping Network" where our conference attendees and guests can review what is available and bid on items throughout the week of the conference. Items in the Silent Auction will be prominently displayed for four days in the exhibitor's hall where coffee breaks and other social functions will be held. Each item will have attached the name of the donor (unless anonymity is requested) and a minimum bid for the item. Meeting participants are encouraged to submit bids for the items on display. The Silent Auction is scheduled for Thursday evening. Cash, cheques and major credit cards will be accepted.
In the past, donated items have included books, scientific equipment, field and recreational gear, eco-tourism adventures, wine, software, and fine arts and crafts. We are trying to gather donated items that relate to Australasia, or items we think would appeal to field biologists and outdoor enthusiasts. We are open to any suggestions you may have regarding items you feel could appeal to our guests from around the world. The SWS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. A receipt will be provided to document your donation.
Providing a Silent Auction tax-deductible donation at the SWS international meeting is a great way to support wetland scientists and to increase visibility for your company. In addition to the exposure of your product or business, your donation will be acknowledged in our program. Silent Auction contributors also have the option of providing a web link on our conference registration web site where members can directly access information on other products and services that your company offers. We ask that any items or donations that you donate be sent or available for pick-up before June 2, 2006.
The Australian Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists, hosts of the 2006 Meeting in Cairns, is very grateful to you for your support of our organization and for the wetlands that contribute so much to our environment. Your donation will directly support the continued study of wetland science to that we may better learn how to manage and care for this valuable natural resource.
Please call Mary Greenwood, Silent Auction Chair, at +61(02) 4924 7959 or email if you have items to donate or donation suggestions.
